Our current system
Always one to be on the cutting edge of technology, Abiquity currently uses sophisticated DJ software called PCDJ Red VRM (see screenshot) running on a blazing fast PC to run the show. Basically, it's a set of virtual CD players that reads .wav, mp3, and .wma files. All of my music is purchased legally from such respected pay-to-download services as iPod, Realplayer, Musicmatch, Walmart, & Napster (yes, they are legit now) and stored on internal as well as external hard drives. This allows me to bring an enormous amount of music (my entire library) without taking up any physical space, and the indexing features make organizing and finding music a snap. Not to mention, it allows me to manage requests and set up play list on the fly. It will even log all the music in the order it was played so I can print it out later. Isn't technology wonderful?

As the music is played through the software, it's sent through the sound card (I use a 4 channel Delta 44 with a break out box) and into a traditional mixing board. I use a 4 channel Gemini PDM18 to do the job.

From there, the signal is passed on and processed through a 15 band stereo EQ and a Compressor/Limiter, before being boosted by two Mackie 1400i power amps, each capable of delivering 1400 watts of power. I protect each piece of equipment by plugging it into a line processor so I can monitor voltage and prevent overloading. All my equipment is housed in sturdy military grade molded plastic SKB rack cases designed specifically for DJ's.

The amps then drive the audio to 15" Yamaha SV15 tops that can handle up to 300 watts @ 8 ohms, producing around 98db of sound. I also have two optional 18" Yamaha subs if you really want to shake the paint off the walls (ask for details).

NOTE: Just to be safe, my entire music library is backed up onto CD-R's, and I always bring a Numark CDN-22 dual CD player....just in case.
